Our family is always on the hunt for fun and special souvenirs and we found one of the best in Epcots World showcase. Inside the Mitsukoshi department store you will find the pick a pearl station.
The cost is $18 which is not bad considering most Disney T-shirts will run you close to $35. Your ticket will allow you to pick 1 oyster that the cast member will open to reveal the pearl or pearls inside. *Edit the cost has gone up to $20+tax as of 2023
Once you have purchased your ticket you may need to wait in line, if so they will also hand you a line number. While you wait this is the time to scope out your perfect oyster. There are 2 different tanks your can choose from.
Once it’s your turn you will show the cast member which oyster you would like to choose.
Now one of our favorite things about this is they don’t just open it right away. They make it extra exciting by teaching them how to count down from 3 to 1 in Japanese. After a quick Japanese lesson everyone counts down and they open the oyster.
Once the pearl is out they clean it off and size it. We got a blue pearl this time, the last time we got a white one. They will then place it in a small ziploc bag with the date and size.
We have done this twice now and the girls love it. It’s so much more memorable than buying a t-shirt or stuffed toy.
Right next to the pearl station they have options to get the pear set in a necklace charm or earrings if you get more than one.
