Throughout the year Disney host multiple marathon, half-marathons, 10 and 5Ks at the theme parks on the DCL island Castaway Cay but for those of us who don’t have a vacation planned runDisney began offering virtual races. This year Disney has offered a summer virtual series consisting of 3 5K races in June, July and August. To celebrate Marvel’s 80th birthday the races are Marvel hero themed. June is Captain America, July is Iron Man and August is Black Panther.
You could choose to run 1 of the races or if you run all 3 you get an additional medal for completion of them all. The individual races sell out quicker than the challenge so I ended up just opting to run all 3! The virtual races work on the honor system. You run the 5K however you would like and then log your time on the runDisney site, you can print a finished certificate after if you choose. They mail your medal(s) out after you record your time. Since I completed the 3 race challenge I received 4 medals and a commemorative coin.
Running the virtual series was not as much fun as running the race at Disney but I would do it again and the medals are really cool, the pictures don’t do them justice.
