In August 2021 Disney World did away with the Fastpass lines at their parks and replaced them with an updated name and a price tag. The Lightning Lane is an additional line for rides or attractions that lets you bypass the standby line for a shorter wait time. Some of the rides or attractions can be purchased individually while others are only available with Genie+. The lighting lanes need to be purchased in advance and the busier rides book up first thing in the morning.

The purchase of Genie+ allows guests to book 2 to 3 lightning lane choices per day, you can choose from more than one park if you have a park hopper ticket. This can range in price from $15-$35 for each person over the age of 3 and this cost is per day.

Individual lighting lane can be purchased either with Genie+ or without, these can range in cost from $10 to $25 and cannot be selected until 7am the day of your visit. The individual lines are limited to no more than 2 per day.

Genie+ and purchasing lightning lanes are not needed to have a great Disney vacation but if your budget allows this can be a good way to make sure you experience a ride or attraction with less wait time than the stand-by lines. This would be a good choice during the busier times of the year like spring break or the winter holiday seasons where the wait times can be quite high.
