Orlando’s Halloween horror nights is back for its 34th year along with 10 new haunted houses. There is a mix of well-known scary franchise and original concepts for this year’s lineup.

Five Nights at Freddys

One of the first houses to be announced this year, a lot of fans of both the game and the movie seem excited for this house. For those unfamiliar with the FNAF story it’s a Chuck E Cheese type pizzeria who had an owner that was murdering children and stashing their bodies in the animatronics in the restaurant and the kids now poses the characters. The house takes place inside the now closed down Freddy Fazbears pizzeria and takes you through the main dining room which the characters performing on stage, the security room and kitchen. This house is not to scary, mostly because most of the scenes feature the main animatronics and not many scare actors. We saw a lot of kids in line for this one and would make for a good starter house for older kids.

The horrors of the Wyatt Sicks

I would have never thought of WWE as scary, but this house was surprising. In the house you will encounter members of Wyatt Sicks, Uncle Howdy along with characters seen on the Firefly Fun House; a kid style show hosted by Bray Wyatt. Of all the houses this year this had the most potential for scares as many rooms had scare actors coming at guest from both sides. Even if you have never watched wrestling or are unfamiliar with Wyatt Sicks and Firefly fun house guests can still enjoy a good scare.

El Artista: A Spanish haunting

One of the original houses this year takes place in 19th century Spain whereas you can guess by the title the main character, an artist, has moved to a country home where his art comes alive and possesses him. This was one of our favorites for the theming and visuals. The house was also very well-lit which made it easier to see all the details they included.

Grave of flesh

The house starts by entering a cemetery and if you look up you realize you are in a grave, the house take you further underground where there are creatures that feed off the dead. This house started off with great visuals but towards the end the scare actors were too abundant and took away from the experience.

Terrifier

This house is a combination of all 3 Terrifier films and features Art the clown who seems like a fun happy guy but is actually a silent psychopath. The house puts you right in the middle of the most well-known scenes from the films. There are multiple spots throughout where you may get sprayed with water that is supposed to symbolize blood spatter. If you are unfamiliar with the films they are quite gory. At the very end of the house you can chose to take a dry path or a wet path where its supposed to rain “blood” down on you. Sadly, this path was closed when we went, likely because we heard multiple guest and team members were slipping and getting hurt. One last warning if you have a sensitive nose there is a bathroom scene that has a bad smell.

Hatchet and Chains: demon bounty hunters

This original house is taken from one of the films from last year’s Slaughterhouse Sinema. You’re transported to an old Western town where demons are trying to possess everyone. Thankfully the team of Hatchet and Chains is here to stop them. One of them is a professional demon hunter while the other is a demon himself but has decided to use his powers for good.

Jason Universe

Based on the Friday the 13th films, killer Jason Voorhees is after you as the house takes you to his shack in the woods and through the iconic Camp Crystal Lake. This house is broken into 2 parts and you go outside to get from one to the other which was giving the guests in front of us a fall sense of security thinking they were done being scared but the scares don’t stop between the 2 spaces.

Fallout

The house is based off the TV show, but fans of the game might spot some easter eggs throughout the house. This house is mild as far as scares go and is more an homage to the show for fans to be right in the scenes. For those who haven’t seen the show you can still enjoy the scenery, but the storyline will be confusing.

Dolls: Let’s play dead

This house is one of the fun and less scary houses for the year. As you enter the house it’s like you are shrinking down and becoming one of the toys (think Barbie style dolls). The owner of the toys did not take good care of them, some merely drawn on or had their hair cut others have been burned or melted. Now all of the tortured dolls are coming after you. Be on the lookout as this is one of the houses that has guest activated trigger buttons you can push for extra fun.

Gálkn: monsters of the north

This house is set in remote northern village where a Shaman beast has rose from the dead brining other monsters and demons to wreak havoc on the townspeople. As you go through the house the Shaman gets bigger until its so large you enter through her mouth and are inside the monster. This was a good concept and had some good visuals but didn’t offer much in the way of scares.
