You may have already heard Disney World is replacing the photographers at some character meet and greets with automated cameras instead. Disney had announced last year they would begin rolling these out in 2019 to 9 character spots. The original test was at Tinkerbell in the Magic Kingdom and now it seems like Disney finally began replacing others in the last week.

The boxes have been installed at:

  • Mickey and Minnie greeting in Town Square theater (MK)
  • Elsa and Anna Royal Sommerhaus (Epcot)
  • Princess Fairytale Hall (MK)
  • Chewbacca (HS)
  • Darth Vader (HS)

The new automatic cameras are supposed to take multiple photos to capture all the moments the old photographers would have but it won’t be the same. Once you exit your meet and greet you will touch your magic band under the photo similar to the ride photos. There will be a cast member with the characters that should still be able to take a picture on your phone or camera if you choose.

Personally I am sad to see the photographers go, some of our best shots were either right at the beginning or at the very end and no automated camera could catch those sweet memories.
